Sara Phillips: Kidnapped! Epilogue
EPILOGUE It was well into the early hours by the time that I finally made it home. Mum and Dad got me checked out by a police doctor, and managed to find a 24 hour McDonalds so that they could be sure that I had eaten something. All the time I was wrapped in a red blanket, surrounded by friends and never being alone for a minute. I was okay with this, given my experiences. I’ll admit that I did cry when my restraints were removed (the police had an expert lockpicker-an ex thief turned police officer) but Mum was waiting with a hug. It had already been decided that the others were staying with me at my house, and we were all sleeping on the lounge floor in sleeping bags that night. I had no problem with this-my ordeal had shaken me to my core and I was grateful for the support. Dad stuck around to sort out the mess from the asylum, and he returned home at about 3am. “Well, we got them all. We stormed the asylum, and picked up the remaining mercenaries before they could put up much

PART TWELVE ---CHRIS--- The room’s background noise quietened down when the (literally) wheelchair bound girl was wheeled onto the stage. She was clad in a black boiler suit and strapped down with so many locked restraints that I couldn’t even begin to think about how uncomfortable and scared Sara was. Foster stayed with the wheelchair bound figure, who was wearing a leather hood and could be heard quietly whimpering. I felt a sudden rush of hatred, fortunately concealed by the mask. That said, the three of us were hidden at the back of the crowd, ready to make a grand entrance. Just like the theatrical psycho Sara had told me about…I could also see two mercenaries in position on the stage, so I knew that they had to be Abigail and Felicity in disguise. Grandma Marie had completed her part of the plan. The rest of the plan was ready to go… Crystal activated a microphone. “Ladies and gentlemen…now there’s a lie for a start. Rogues and villains…welcome to the auction! You have all

PART ELEVEN ---SARA--- I lost all sense of time, helpless as I was. I was securely restrained to my wheelchair, I was blindfolded, I was earplugged, and I was heavily gagged. There were a couple of times where I was fed, and allowed to use the loo, but these were under armed guard and I found no opening to free myself. I knew of my ultimate fate now-I was to be auctioned off at the stroke of midnight by Crystal Riley, to whichever of my worst enemies was the highest bidder. What would happen to me then, I could only think of…and trapped in sensory deprivation as I was, I could think of little else. I’ll admit to feeling depressed within my helpless state, and I feared that I may never see my friends and family again. I would be utterly lost to them, due to my own curiosity and sense of morality… And then I thought again. Of Rachel, of Harriet, of Abigail. My fellow girl detectives, sisters in arms who had saved me (and each other) more times than we could count. Together we had

PART TEN ---POLICE INTERVIEW: DETECTIVE INSPECTOR ALEX TYLER--- The following is a transcript of a police interview conducted by Harry Phillips, with DCI Bexhill of the Internal Corruptions Department DC-13 (Metropolitan Police), with DI Alex Tyler. BEXHILL: Before we begin, owing to the personal nature of the offences, I will be allowing DI Phillips to lead the interview, but reserve the right to step in if I deem it necessary. PHILLIPS: First of all, Tyler…you were found in possession of a gun, with several hostages who claim they were bound for people traffickers. Furthermore, you very nearly shot my son dead. That alone is enough to warrant me handing you over to Bexhill here for Internal Affairs to rip you to shreds, but there’s more to this whole situation than that, isn’t there? TYLER: No comment. PHILLIPS: We also have it on record that you are suspected of holding my wife Caroline hostage and leaving her with a timed bomb, intended to stop her investigations into my

PART NINE ----CAROLINE PHILLIPS: WITNESS STATEMENT 3---- I didn’t like to show fear a lot, but I’ll admit I was scared that moment. I was bound securely to a chair, the ropes digging into my knee-high leather boots and crumpling my black skirt suit. I was terrified to move, as there was a bomb strapped to the underside of my chair. Petrified of the slightest movement setting it off, I stayed utterly stock still, the tape across my mouth preventing me from shouting for help…not that anyone would have been around to hear. As I watched the timer count down until the end of my life, I stopped to think of my daughter. Sara Phillips…third generation girl detective (at least). Just as talented as my mother and I had been, and just as diligent in her pursuit of justice as Harry was. However, at this moment in time, she was in very real trouble. While she was frequently in need of rescue, there were also times where she could handle herself. But this time, she was completely out of her

PART EIGHT ----POLICE TRANSCRIPT: MR FOSTER-SECOND INTERVIEW---- (Click of tape recorder running) PHILLIPS: This is the second interview with ‘Mr Foster’. In the room are Mr Foster, Mr Phillip Hutz, Attorney at Law, Detective Inspector Harry Phillips, and Detective Constable Alex Tyler. The time is 5.35 AM. FOSTER: My client has nothing more to say to you, DI Phillips… PHILLIPS: I’m trying a different line of questioning, and I wish to follow that through. Mr Foster, you were apprehended this morning after an APB was put out, correct? FOSTER: That would appear to be true. HUTZ: Why did you put out an APB on my client? Why are you still holding him, despite having no concrete evidence connecting him to the kidnapping of your daughter? PHILLIPS: I’m coming to that. You made a number of trips over the course of the night, before you were finally apprehended. Were you simply cleaning up loose ends? FOSTER: No comment. PHILLIPS: You were at the riverfront property of Mr Raymond Lonsdale

PART SEVEN ------RACHEL-------- We were elated to be rescued… While the armed police took Lonsdale into custody (he had been expertly wounded by a crack Police marksman to allow him to return to prison), Felicity and Chris got to work on freeing us. “We may need a hammer and chisel here…” Chris muttered upon seeing our feet. However, I remembered a key fact in this whole situation… “Who the hell’s looking after Sara’s brothers?” I asked Chris, who was supposed to be babysitting. “Kavita…there was no bloody way I was going to sit this one out. Besides, if I had sat it out, you’d be at the bottom of the river, like a film noir damsel…” he commented. He had a point… Once we were eventually free, the lead officer spoke into the radio. “DI Phillips? Rescue successful.” He then looked at us. “Stay out of trouble this time…may I recommend going home? I can send an officer to escort you…” Felicity, however, was indicating to follow her. We all piled into Felicity’s little car. Space

PART SIX ----SARA------ I was taken somewhere-blindfolded as I was, I could not see-and my gag meant that I could not ask. However, to my surprise, I found my wheelchair had stopped. I could hear nothing-but this was a good thing, as it meant that finally I was alone. I could get to work on my restraints… I had been restrained by tape, and that wasn’t as strong as some believed it to be…In fact, I had proven a couple of times that it wasn’t as strong as it looked. All it took was enough movement to shift the tight bonds…so I started with my torso, rocking backwards and forwards. To my surprise, I found myself lurching forward and out of the wheelchair! Still unable to see, I tried to wrench my limbs away from my bonds. It took what felt like forever, but finally I was successful! I could feel my tights tearing as the tape came loose, however. Laying on the floor, I attempted to remove my gag and blindfold. Through a lot of undignified wriggling that ruined my dress (I had taped

PART FIVE -----SARA----- I have rarely felt as helpless as I did right at that moment. I was helplessly bound and gagged, at the mercy of one of my deadliest enemies, who had ensnared me in what I now saw was quite a twisted scheme…and what of my friends? What had happened to them? “Mmmmppphhh….Mmmmpphhh…” I tried talking, but the tape kept me silent. Crystal smiled. “Unable to talk your way out of any trouble…how you should always be…” Her eyes blazed with hatred, any humour derived from meeting me that she had displayed in our previous encounter long gone. Had prison drained that from her…? Crystal pulled herself a swivel chair and positioned it in front of my wheelchair. I could see a shadow looming over me, so I assumed that Crystal had help. I looked around, to see a tall, well built man in a crisp black suit with a black overcoat and gloves. His hair, appropriately enough, was black-though with a streak of grey here and there. His face was stony and emotionless. Upon seeing

PART FOUR ---RACHEL--- If you were wondering how long it would take for us to find ourselves tied up, well this is your answer. Abigail and Harriet were tied up, either side of me. All of us were securely bound to chairs-our torsos had been strapped so tightly with ropes that they could not move an inch. Our wrists were bound behind our backs, and our upper arms pinned to our sides by a complicated harness arrangement-I can only assume that one of Raymond’s latest goons was heavily into rope bondage techniques. Our knees and ankles were bound tightly too, and once again a line of rope was bound around the bar of the chair’s legs and attached at one end to the ankles and the other to the wrists. To add insult to injury, Harriet and Abigail were also both gagged-they were grunting into large strips of tape, and I could see a large bulge that spoke of a rag stuffing their mouths. However, I was not gagged-so I assume that’s because he wants to speak to me. “I assume you want to
